A healthy glow during pregnancy starts from within. Some factors contribute to this, such as diet, exercise and emotional health. Taking care of your general well-being is the path to a radiant mom and, ultimately, a healthy baby!
Build a safe routine with natural skincare ingredients that are right for your skin type. Do not stop taking care of your skin because you do not know what products to use. Watch what you eat. Avoid fatty foods and junk foods. Excess dairy can also be a factor in your breakouts. They can trigger acne and be detrimental to the health of you and your baby.
It is important to remember that skin and body products containing retinol should not be used. Some studies indicate that this ingredient is a factor in foetal abnormalities. Instead, use bakuchiol, a natural alternative to retinol.
Drink water to keep your body hydrated. Eat a lot of fruit: they are natural antioxidants that improve skin elasticity and collagen production. Use skincare products sparingly. Although they are generally safe and FDA-sealed, avoid putting too many on your face and body.
Always consult with your dermatologist and gynaecologist if you are not sure about a product. It’s best to get professional advice to make sure you’re using the right product and applying it correctly.
How should face care be?
During pregnancy, stick to your regular cleansing routine. Here are some tips:
• If the skin dries out, moisturise it with cream and increase fluid intake.
• If the face becomes oily, use mild non-comedogenic products. It can be exfoliated with mechanical (not chemical) exfoliants. You must protect yourself from the sun.
• Avoid products that contain Retinol or any form of vitamin A. They should never be used unless prescribed by your gynaecologist.
• Let your skin breathe as much as possible, wash before bed with mild soap or cleansing milk to remove impurities accumulated during the day, and at the end apply a hypoallergenic moisturiser.
• If spots, pimples or a slight redness on your face have begun to appear, apply an infusion of chamomile with a cotton pad to your clean face for 15 minutes. It will help you “lighten” your skin and act as a calming and refreshing.
• Sometimes, at the end of pregnancy, the face and neck swell due to fluid retention. To reduce swelling, apply a towel soaked in cold water or a decongestant mask to your face.
