Tighten the dilated pores

Vital for the health of our skin, pores make life difficult: they accumulate sebum and impurities and easily look dilated. So what can be done to find a smooth skin texture and tighten pores? Here are our dilated pore solutions!

What are pores?

We must first differentiate the pores into two categories:

  1. The pores through which the sweat flows. They are invisible.
  2. The pores through which the sebum flows, house a hair follicle.

Discussing the dilated pores, we are talking about this second category. The first myth about pores to be deconstructed is that ‘pores do not “open” or “close” and their appearance is more or less dilated according to sebum and impurities that have accumulated there.

Pores are present all over the surface of the skin. They ensure the good health of the skin barrier and deposit sebum on the skin to form the hydrolipidic film. The pores are more easily dilated and visible on the T zone, namely the nose, its surroundings and the forehead.

Why are the pores dilated?

The pores dilate due to an accumulation: the more things you put in them, the more they widen. Some reasons that contribute to large pores are:

– Overproduction of sebum

– The accumulation of dead cells and impurities

– Make-up residues such as foundation, comedogenic oils, etc.

– Oxidative stress due to the sun, tobacco, pollution …

– Skin ageing

If a pore has been dilated for a long time, a plug will form in the pore. Further, the blackheads are developed, or if the blackheads become infected, the appearance of acne arises.

What to do to tighten your large pores?

There are several things you can do to treat large pores:

Adopt double cleaning: A coffee scrub, for example, will deeply cleanse fatty substances such as sebum, make-up, etc. We then perfect the cleansing to purify the pores with a Vitamin C cleanser for perfectly cleansed skin. Double cleansing is important, especially for those who wear makeup, wear sunscreen, or have oily skin.

Reduce the production of sebum. You should look for ingredients in your routine that regulate sebum production: niacinamide regulates sebum. A serum concentrated in niacinamide and geranium extract to reduce sebum production without drying the skin.

Exfoliate regularly. Since dead cells help to clog and dilate pores, exfoliating once or twice a week with AHAs is a good habit. It is for this reason that Salicylic acid face wash or cream rich in glycol acid are good solutions for treating enlarged facial pores. Both enriched with AHA will surely prove to be beneficial for your skin.

Use a moisturizer suitable for your skin type. To be healthy, your skin produces a certain amount of sebum. In the morning, therefore, use a moisturizer suitable for your skin type. In the evening, use a richer one. For example, oily skin should use a fluid or gel moisturizer. In the evening, it is better to use a cream for normal to dry skin.

Use a clay-based mask. Clay masks are used to treat large pores because they absorb excess sebum: you will have an immediate tightened pore effect, but this effect will not last. They also won’t help with blackheads.
